Centenary Home

North Berks Football League 1909-2009

In 2009 the North Berks Football League will achieve its Centenary. To celebrate this landmark the Council of the Competition intends to commemorate the milestone with various activities and functions.

A preliminary and provisional list of events is shown below:

v Centenary Dinner – to be held at Drayton Park Golf Club on Friday 9 October 2009; further details including ticket availability will be circulated later.

v Centenary Cup Competition – for all League Clubs, to be played in the first part of season 2009/10. An idea is that the format may include playing the early rounds on a Divisional basis (regionalized as in 1909/10 – Abingdon, Wantage, Wallingford, Faringdon) – further details to follow.

v Centenary Veterans (over 35’s) Tournament – interest currently being gauged.

v Centenary Representative match – further details to follow.

v Centenary Quiz - Friday 20 March 2009 (provisional date) at Hanney Royal British Legion Club; Clubs, Council, Referees’ Association branches, Leagues, County FA etc invited to enter teams.

v Centenary Brochure – a commemorative publication.

v Charitable activities – to include projects in third world countries – further details to follow.

Several Clubs have kindly responded to a request to provide an historical account of their past, including photographs, and these are reproduced on the appropriate link page which can be seen by clicking on the link on the left.

All Clubs are encouraged to forward similar details of their history (to Ian Brown )of their history, however short, to enable a comprehensive collection of information to be chronicled.

It is hoped to bring together a collection of Competition memorabilia from the past, including medals, programmes, photographs etc. Anyone with such information should contact Ernie Tilley, Centenary Committee Secretary either by email ( Ernie Tilley ) or telephone (01793 782865).
